The Sex Education Collaborative Training Hub lists trainings for sex educators, facilitators, and other professionals on best practices for sharing important information with clients and the public. Navigating the Politics of Public Health: Finding Common Ground in Support of Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health
In this four-part recorded webinar series, participants will learn how to advocate in support of adolescent sexual and reproductive health with conservative-leaning policymakers and key stakeholders, including:
- strategies for knowing your audience to understand their background and perspective,
- opportunities for finding common ground to work toward a shared goal,
- leveraging the media to increase your public awareness, and
- tactics for identifying and cultivating key messengers and mobilizing your community.
A shifted landscape of new or strengthened power players (particularly, those who lean conservative) at all levels of government, combined with threats to public health investments that our nation’s youth are facing, necessitates a reinvigorated call to public policy action by individuals and organizations that support youth and their families. Foundations: Core Skills Training for Sex Education
This one-day Foundations training covers the essential skills for facilitating sex education, including:
- climate building in the classroom,
- understanding state and local sex education policies,
- pedagogical approaches for experiential learning,
- values clarification
- managing personal disclosure,
- and handling difficult questions and harassing comments.
Optional half-day modules for a second day of training include cultural proficiency, LGBTQ inclusion, trauma-informed approaches, and facilitation skills for commonly used sex education strategies.

Policy Support
Advocates staff provides technical assistance, training and resources to national, state, and local organizations regarding youth-centered reproductive and sexual health/rights/justice public policy and communications. Policy staff draft model legislation and policy briefs, track and provide in-depth policy analysis, and can support partners in building out advocacy strategies to improve policies and practices at the federal, state, and local levels. In addition, communications staff can assist with talking points, public speaking training, and training regarding media outreach. Staff is also available to assist organizations wishing to raise the visibility of young people and their experiences and needs through social or traditional media.
