The Sex Education Collaborative Training Hub lists trainings for sex educators, facilitators, and other professionals on best practices for sharing important information with clients and the public. From teaching anatomy inclusively to effectively addressing bias in the classroom to addressing racial justice and equity in sex education, the Training Hub includes trainings, technical assistance, and policy support from state, regional, and national leaders in the field of sex education.

LGBTQIA+ Student Rights and Advocacy in Michigan Schools
LGBTQIA+ students have the right to a safe and healthy learning experience in the state of Michigan. Students and educators, however, are often unaware of these rights. In this training, participants will identify and state the implications of key legal and policy issues affecting LGBTQIA+ students and safe school environments in Michigan.
In this training, participants will:
- Review relevant and current data related to LGBTQIA+ students.
- Examine federal and state law and policy.
- Discuss district-level decisions and the Michigan Department of Education's Statement and Guidance on Safe and Supportive Learning Environments for LGBTQ Students.
- Examine law around GSA clubs.
- Identify current needs and action planning.
- Indicator 1 (K-12): Explain how availability of supportive school staff, presence of Gay-Straight Alliances (GSAs), LGBQ-inclusive curricular resources, and the presence of comprehensive, enumerated anti-harassment school policies are related to improved school climate for students of all sexual orientations.

The Responsible Sex Education Institute at Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains offers a variety of technical assistance, including support services like monthly webinars and blogs, and office hours. We can help schools/organizations select, customize, and/or develop a comprehensive sex education curriculum aligned with state standards and with an eye on best practices.
Pregnant and Parenting Teens: The Basics and Beyond
Pregnant and Parenting Teens: The Basics and Beyond will help increase middle and high school health professionals' knowledge on everything from prenatal care to the stages of birth. This comprehensive workshop includes information on teen moms and dads, and their options around abortion, adoption and parenting as a teen.
Format/platform:
- Online Learning Management System (Canvas e-learning), hosted by Rutgers University
- Six-hours of total contact time utilizing videos, podcasts, instructional games, discussion boards, written assignments, presentations, readings, and visual animations
- Asynchronous
- Instructor-led
All content is aligned to the National Sexuality Education Standards, the National Teacher Preparation Standards for Sexuality Education, the Professional Learning Standards for Sex Education, and the Areas of Responsibility and Competencies for Health Education Specialists.
- Indicator 1 (6-12): Explain fertilization, implantation, conception, and how pregnancy occurs.
- Indicator 5 (6-12): Describe pregnancy options, including parenting, adoption, and abortion.
- Indicator 6 (6-12): Identify three federal and/or state laws that impact young peoples’ access to effective reproductive and sexual health care (e.g. age of consent for services, confidential access to health care services, and access to condoms)
Virtual PD - Creating LBGQ Inclusive Classrooms
Virtual Professional Development is a simulated classroom where teachers can practice teaching student avatars using short scenarios and support from an instructional coach, so they can quickly learn and master the skills they most need to be effective. With upper elementary, middle and high school classrooms, Virtual PD has scenarios for teachers of all grade levels across a wide range of topics aligned with the Professional Learning Standards for Sex Education (PLSSE). Using the Virtual Professional Development simulated classroom, the educator will practice Creating LGBQ Inclusive Classrooms with the student avatars. In this VPD scenario, the participant will need to demonstrate the use of inclusive and affirming language and the ability to intervene effectively in homophobic and other bullying comments and actions. The educator will introduce the topic of STDs and ask each student to share one behavior they have heard that can place someone at risk for getting an STD. This scenario can be used with high school or middle school students.
