The Sex Education Collaborative Training Hub lists trainings for sex educators, facilitators, and other professionals on best practices for sharing important information with clients and the public. From teaching anatomy inclusively to effectively addressing bias in the classroom to addressing racial justice and equity in sex education, the Training Hub includes trainings, technical assistance, and policy support from state, regional, and national leaders in the field of sex education.

Training

Fat Liberation is Queer Liberation

Even within justice-oriented spaces, fatphobia, a system of oppression, is frequently normalized and ignored. Due to diet culture and body surveillance under the guise of public health, we are not often given the space to discuss liberation from fatphobia. This workshop allows the audience to reflect on how fatphobia is normalized and shows up in their lives, discuss how fatphobia is explicitly tied to every other system of oppression, and tie fat liberation to queer and trans liberation as we advocate for ourselves and our communities in the fight against fatphobia.

In this training, participants will:

  • Discuss how fatphobia is normalized and how it occurs in daily life, and unlearn myths about health and thinness.
  • Gain an understanding of how fatphobia is tied to all other systems of oppression and how fat liberation is connected to queer and trans liberation.
  • Examine their own internalized fatphobia and identify strategies for self-advocacy and community advocacy. 
  • Share local and national resources on fat positivity and liberation.

Stellar Sexual Health Education facilitator training

This facilitator training enables facilitators to provide excellent sexual health education to youth and adults AND to "stellarize" other curricula so it is more affirming, accessible, and trauma-informed while adhering to local and state restrictions. This facilitator training includes strategies for guiding a well-rounded exploration of whole people, especially when cultural norms might challenge scientific and psychological reality.

Learn how to facilitate in ways that are intentionally trauma-informed, antioppressive, and accessible to people with various learning styles and abilities. Stellar Sex Ed facilitator training can help facilitators of any curriculum, even in strictly regulated Tennessee public schools, create a more trauma-informed, inclusive experience for students.

  • Learn how to engage participants' imagination and actively encourage exploration and curiosity.
  • Find out what curriculum, facilitator, and administration characteristics enhance racial equity in sex ed--and why that is important.

Sexuality Education Cornerstone Seminar

The Sexuality Education Cornerstone Seminar (SECS) is our most popular training opportunity for foundational information about sexuality education. SECS is designed for educators, youth-serving professionals, and individuals interested in entering sexuality education and are seeking a basic foundation of knowledge in sexuality and sexual health information that they can share with their populations. Participants receive up-to-date information about protection methods, anatomy, puberty, sexual and gender identity, communication, and sexually transmitted infections. They also develop the knowledge, skills, and practice needed to deliver information and answer questions related to sexuality. Each session of this lively, interactive, three day seminar combines discussion and hands-on practical experience in specific subject areas.

At the conclusion of the seminar, participants of this course are able to:

  • Discuss key sexual health topics.
  • Utilize interactive lessons for a variety of topics in sexuality education.
  • Implement teaching strategies that address diverse learning styles and experiences.
  • Answer questions related to sexuality in a non-judgmental, inclusive, and comprehensive manner.
  • List at least three vetted resources for information on sexual health topics.
  • Identify key elements of effective sexuality education.
  • Define Harm Reduction Theory as it relates to sexuality education.
  • Describe the role of facts vs. values, attitudes, and beliefs in teaching and learning about sexuality.

A certificate of participation is given upon successful completion and evaluation of the seminar. This training does not certify participants as sexuality educators, though some professional development and continuing education credits are available.
